Celebrity homes typically tout luxe interiors or, say, expansive home theaters, but the latest star property to hit the market it all about the land — so much, in fact, that the listing doesn't even include interior photos of the home.
Kevin Costner's sprawling coastal estate in Carpinteria (a small city just south of Santa Barbara, California) just hit the market for $60 million, but the quaint, circa-1940 house itself has just two bedrooms and one bathroom, according to the listing. Surrounding it, however, are more than 10 acres of seaside land with 500 feet of ocean frontage, rare beach access and plenty of areas for horseback riding, which Costner has been known to enjoy.
Costner, who recently starred in "Hidden Figures," had originally designed a large house, pool and guesthouse for the property after he bought it for $28.5 million in 2006, but he never had the chance to actually build the dream home, his real estate agent Tim Hoctor told Mansion Global. Costner and his wife were reportedly too busy taking care of their three young children at their Aspen home.
The estate is near the sprawling villa where Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi recently listed their $45 million house (which is 10,500 square feet) in Montecito — an area where Oprah also owns property.
It make sense that celebrities might prefer real estate in the wide-open, grassy areas surrounding Santa Barbara. Nestled along the coastline and cushioned with green hills, the area offers a sense of recluse that the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles — 80 miles south — might not.
